I was reading my favorite magazine - The Week - a magazine that compacts pertinent news going on around the world along with some not so serious stuff. Today I'm sharing a couple of quotes from the not so serious stuff.
The first comes from an interview with Meredith Vieira - TV host. She was responding to something a feminist said to her at a party about setting women back by putting her family first above business choices.
What she thought to herself was, "I'm not the standard-bearer here. For me the message is, get in touch with who you are, with what you want, and try to shape everything else around that. None of us should be the figureheads for everybody else."
The second quote is from Jennifer Aniston commenting on people's perception of what her personal life should look like.
She states, "Just because at this stage my life doesn't have the traditional framework to it - the husband and the two kids and the house in Connecticut - it's mine. It's my experience. And if you don't like the way it looks, then stop looking at it!"
There's no doubt that we live in a world where many people love to judge and comment how everyone else is living the wrong way just because it doesn't fit their idea or beliefs. But both these statements are great examples of choosing to create a life that feels best without trying to please anyone else because it would make other people feel better or be more comfortable.
When we are willing to set our lives up in a way that best supports us emotionally, spiritually, physically and mentally, it is then, that life can flow more easily for us.
Sure I'm stating the obvious, and perhaps you're thinking that's easier said then done. Well, maybe for you, it is right now. But it doesn't mean that you can't begin the process of taking even the smallest step that heads you in that direction. It requires courage and a willingness to stand up for yourself. It requires moving outside your comfort zone. It requires not always putting others first. It requires not caring so much about what others think of you.
The bottom line is this is your life and it's the only one you've got. You might as well do everything in your power to let the world know, you intend to own it full out. And when you do, a funny thing happens along the way, the right people and circumstances start showing up that support your new found courage and efforts.
