So here I sit wondering - Am I the only person on the planet who didn't know that Jennifer Hudson lip-synched the national anthem at the Super Bowl AND that the quartet at President Obama's inauguration faked it as well? Which included a world renown cellist, Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Itzhak Perlman - the crowd was listening to a recording of all things!
When I heard this I was so disappointed. Why would I care that much you might wonder? Because these kinds of situations send a message out to the world that it's not okay to make a mistake. For crying out loud, we're human beings and it's our mistakes from time to time that make us so very human - that reminds us there's always room for improving ourselves - that we're not invincible and that connects us to each other more deeply.
It also sends a message to those who might one day be striving to reach the heights of a Jennifer Hudson or an Itzhak Perlman that they couldn't ever perform like that and give up too soon - not realizing it's a big fat lie.
So now I gotta ask - what are you faking in your life because you don't want people to realize your human with all your faults and mistakes and mishaps that show up day in and day out?
Don't be a recorded version of yourself. Let people hear and see the real you - live - and allow them to love you for exactly who you are - mistakes and all. And of course, the sooner you can do that for yourself, the sooner others will follow right along.
